"To enter each day with a generous heart. To serve the call of courage and love"
- John O'Donohue
If you have experienced baby, pregnancy or conception loss or if you are facing birth that is in any way informed by grief-I see you and I am so sorry. As a doula I support birth that is informed by loss and can offer this support at hospital or at home. I can join you as you give birth to, meet and say goodbye to your baby, or attend appointments with you as you navigate the end of your pregnancy. I also offer support as a doula to people having a live birth following previous experiences.
If your pregnancy has or will be ending, or if your baby is confirmed to be or likely to be stillborn and you require support as you navigate your birth and labour- you do not need to journey this time alone. Working as a recognised Doula UK birth doula has taught me so many incredible things and the only thing that is consistent is that every birth I have experienced, every woman and birthing person I have met, is unique.
My name is Kay King and I have been working as a doula since 2014. Doulas assist women and birthing people and their families with practical and emotional support throughout pregnancy, birth and beyond. The word doula has it's roots in the Greek language and means 'women slave or caregiver'. I first came to support loss informed birth in 2015 and have since supported many women and birthing people as they have faced the challenging, devastating and often heart-breaking time of their planned parenting journey. I offer support to you as you experience termination, miscarriage, ectopic and molar pregnancy as well as working with parents as they birth stillborn babies or navigate neonatal care. My work can include supporting you in the hospital, at home, prior to your birth or end of pregnancy and in the time beyond.
All circumstances of loss are unique to the person or people that are within them and how we work together is really very much led by you. I will support you as you experience your grief, hold space for you as you approach a birth or pregnancy that is likely to be very different to what you had imagined. As a Grief Recovery Specialist I can work to support you by teaching you the Greif Recovery Method within one-to-one or group sessions.
I have experienced loss in my own maternity journey and also have two living children, an 8 year old and a 6 year old. As a qualified pre and post natal yoga teacher I can offer support to guide you in how to work to recover physically and can also explore techniques to prepare you and your body for the challenges that may arise during future live births.
If you would like to contact me for an initial conversation, please get in touch. You are not committed to working with me and an initial conversation is always encouraged and welcomed. I operate in line with the Doula UK Code of Conduct and am a fully recognised Doula UK birth doula and an Advanced Grief Recovery Specialist with the Grief Recovery Institute UK . I offer services to support you with grief and how to continue to live your life after loss. If you feel that one to one support would be beneficial for you at this time and you would like to consider me joining you on your journey please feel free to get in contact with me. Speaking to you about your experience will be led by you so get in touch in the way that feels best for you.
If your experience is also informed by any circumstance of crisis, abuse or emergency and your safety or well-being is at risk, please refer to my signposting pages to access immediate or emergency support. Please be aware that I am neither a counsellor or a psychotherapist, nor am I able to offer you any medical advice. My work as a loss informed doula is about finding the practical and emotional support that you need and there may be occasions that require additional signposting to more appropriate services.
